Fixes an issue where HashFolder skipped the root directory upon hitting
the first file in the excludes list. This happened because the walk function
returned SkipDir even for regular files.
This fixes `go run build/ci.go install`. It was failing because we
resolved all main packages by parsing sources, which fails when the
source directory contains multiple modules.
https://go.dev/ref/mod#go-work-file advises against checking `go.work`
files because they can interfere with local development. We added the
workspace file in order to make `go test` and other tools work across
multiple modules. But it seems to cause weird issues with the
`go.work.sum` file being modified, etc.
So with this PR, we instead run all the `ci.go` commands for all modules
in the workspace manually.
This adds support for the Github actions environment in the build tool.
Information from environment variables, like the build number and
branch/tag name, is used to make decisions about uploads and package
filenames.
This adds a geth subcommand for downloading era1 files and placing them into
the correct location. The tool can be used even while geth is already running
on the datadir. Downloads are checked against a hard-coded list of checksums
for mainnet and sepolia.

The implementation reuses the file downloader we already had for
fetching build tools. I've done some refactoring on it to make sure it
can support the new use case, and there are some changes to the build
here as well.
This PR updates the version of go used in builds and docker to

More importantly, following our policy of maintaining the last two
versions (which now becomes 1.23 and 1.22), we can now make use of
the things that were introduced in 1.22: https://go.dev/doc/go1.22
Go 1.22 makes two changes to “for” loops.
- each iteration creates new variables,
- for loops may range over integers
Other than that, some interesting library changes and other stuff.
When we are building in detached head, we cannot easily obtain the same information as we can if we're in non-detached head.
However, one thing we _can_ obtain is the git-hash and git-date. Currently, we omit to include the git-date into the build-info, which causes problem for reproducable builds which are on a detached head.
This change fixes it to include the date-info always.
This is primarily to make lint work again on macOS 14. The older version of golangci-lint kept crashing.
Also included is a fix for a goroutine leak in the recently-introduced function MustRunCommandWithOutput.

This adds support for building statically-linked executables using ci.go.
Static linking is enabled by default in Docker builds, making it possible to
use the geth executable in any Docker image, regardless of the Linux
distribution the Dockerfile is based on.

WIth a few exceptions.
- We use a deprecated protobuf in trezor. I didn't want to mess with that, since I cannot meaningfully test any changes there.
- The deprecated TypeMux is used in a few places still, so the warning for it is silenced for now.
- Using string type in context.WithValue is apparently wrong, one should use a custom type, to prevent collisions between different places in the hierarchy of callers. That should be fixed at some point, but may require some attention.
- The warnings for using weak random generator are squashed, since we use a lot of random without need for cryptographic guarantees.

This PR cleans up the CI build system and fixes a couple of issues.
- The go tool launcher code has been moved to internal/build. With the new
toolchain functions, the environment of the host Go (i.e. the one that built
ci.go) and the target Go (i.e. the toolchain downloaded by -dlgo) are isolated
more strictly. This is important to make cross compilation and -dlgo work
correctly in more cases.
- The -dlgo option now skips the download and uses the host Go if the running Go
version matches dlgoVersion exactly.
- The 'test' command now supports -dlgo, -cc and -arch. Running unit tests with
foreign GOARCH is occasionally useful. For example, it can be used to run
32-bit tests on Windows. It can also be used to run darwin/amd64 tests on
darwin/arm64 using Rosetta 2.
- The 'aar', 'xcode' and 'xgo' commands now use a slightly different method to
install external tools. They previously used `go get`, but this comes with the
annoying side effect of modifying go.mod. They now use `go install` instead,
which is the recommended way of installing tools without modifying the local
module.
- The old build warning about outdated Go version has been removed because we're
much better at keeping backwards compatibility now.
This new flag downloads a known version of Go and builds with it. This
is meant for environments where we can't easily upgrade the installed Go
version.
* .travis.yml: remove install step for PR test builders
We added this step originally to avoid re-building everything
for every test. go test has become much smarter in recent go
releases, so we no longer need to install anything here.
* build: remove env.sh
This removes the dirty symlink-to-self hack we've had for years. The
script was added to enable building without GOPATH and did that job
reliably for all this time. We can remove the workaround because modern
Go supports building without GOPATH natively.
* Makefile: add GO111MODULE=on to environment
